baja jazz collective: home

The Baja Jazz Collective is a group of veteran Charlottesville-area musicians who have taken matters into their own hands and created a scene for learning, developing and performing the jazz repertoire weekly—a live "jazz laboratory."

Performances are every Sunday, 7-10 pm at Baja Bean Company Restaurant on the University of Virginia "Corner." In addition to street parking, the garage at 14th Street and Wertland Avenue is free of charge on Sundays. (Google map)

You may enjoy the BJC sitting upstairs with the musicians or downstairs in the main restaurant. Baja Bean Company features your favorite Baja California cuisine and beverages, modestly-priced and served in a low-key, friendly atmosphere.

A collective in the true sense, BJC typically takes the form of a "little big band" with bass, drums, guitar, piano, saxes and trumpet. Each instrument is represented by multiple players, and the composition of the group varies slightly from week to week. See the "regulars" page for the mainstay players and some distinguished guests.

BJC's repertoire includes Bop, Hard-Bop, Latin, Swing, and Soul-Jazz standards. See our Songlist for a complete list.

BJC will perform at your function. For more information, please contact Jaye at 434-220-2933.
